These days, you need as much money in your pocket as possible. So don’t let bank fees drain you. Here’s how to keep money in your wallet.

1) Join a credit union
Credit unions generally have lower fees and higher saving rates on its products. To find out where the credit unions are in your area, go to creditunion.coop.

2) Bypass ATM Fees
If you use ATM machines, you’re no stranger to the fees attached to this transaction. You’ll spend $3 to $5 if you take money out of an ATM that’s not in your network. So, to avoid these ever-growing fees, use your debit card to make a purchase, and just ask for cash back.

3) Link your accounts
Link your checking and your savings account so that in case you bounce a check, the funds will be transferred from your savings account to cover the shortfall. There is usually a $5-$10 fee associated with this.
